Material Buyer

The Material Buyer is responsible for supporting manufacturing by procuring raw materials, components, equipment, tooling, and services in a timely manner to meet performance objectives in maintaining customer service, quality, cost, and targeted inventory levels. Determines material requirements from production schedules and/or engineering to plan, schedules, and monitors the supply of assigned materials commodities to support production.

MATERIAL BUYER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Timely review of internal database and execution of purchase orders, supplier confirmations/lead times, and delivery schedules utilizing internal Logistics or supplier’s carrier for materials and assigned commodities to support production
  • Coordinates with plants to identify inventory levels, track and monitor open purchase orders, supplier confirmations, delivery schedules/OT delivery, and invoices for supplier compliance with quality, quantities, cost, and schedule adherence.
  • Supports material orders for multiple locations
  • Generates cost savings through the continuous improvement process and engineering support
  • Reviews and plans material requirements for targeted inventory levels and minimizing EE&O, adjusting min/max and lead times as required.
  • Routinely reviews and dispositions EE&O inventories coordinating with Sales, plant Operations and Accounting for approval.
  • Complies with all GMP, regulatory and ISO guidelines including company policies and departmental procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Supply Chain, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent:
  • Minimum 1+ years purchasing experience out of food or automotive industries, a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with suppliers and internal customers to build a framework for strategic supplier relationships.
  • Proficiency with Excel, SharePoint, and other MS Office products suites to capture, execute and translate data; office equipment (scanner, copier)
  • Strong EXCEL, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Action oriented with continuous improvement focus
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Well organized and ability to work on multiple projects and maintain flexibility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Changes of >30 degrees within a shift (May occur, if at plant)
  • Rotating and oscillating equipment
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts
  • Standing and walking on concrete floor

  • Walk up and down several flights of stairs
