The Material Handler is responsible for assisting the production operations, unloading, and loading trucks.  As well as all bulk unloading and hand stacking finished product of bags ranging in weights 5-25lbs to pattern specifications.  This individual will be part of Local 135 with union benefits.

MATERIAL HANDLER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maneuver a forklift safely in a busy industrial environment.
  • Safely stack and unstack large quantities of goods onto shelves or pallets.
  • Move goods from storage areas to loading areas for transport.
  • Unload deliveries and safely relocate the goods to their designated storage areas.
  • Ensure that forklift driving areas are free from spills or obstructions.
  • Regularly check forklift equipment for faults or damages.
  • Use industrial plastic wraps and wooden pallets to safely stack and package goods for transport.
  • Keep up to date on health and safety requirements and forklift operating procedures.
  • Consolidate partial pallets for incoming goods.
  • Load/unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and stack them to assigned places.
  • Locate and move stock of products to pallets or crates for storage or shipment.
  • Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
  • Monitor finished package weights to ensure that bags conform to specifications.
  • Inspect and hand stack finished bags on a pallet using designed stack pattern.
  • Ensure that finished product is bagged, sealed, and palletized in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion on structurally sound pallets.
  • Attach labels to bags as necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize all packing and loading areas.
  • Assist in the training of new and existing personnel in any stacking functions/positions.
  • Transport raw materials to production workstations.
  • Keeping all material handling equipment in the best condition by conducting regular maintenance.
  • Keep updated records of inventory and activity logs.
  • Comply with company policies and legal guidelines.
  • Help maintain a safe and orderly environment of the facilities.
  • Perform inbound and inventory control activities to maintain the highest level of quality and inventory accuracy.
  • Retain all documentation of incoming product receiving transport loads and verifying loads match B.O.L.
  • Inventory Control and bulk material placement allocation.
  • Verify COA and seals match bulk vessel.
  • Preform CCP sanitation by cleaning/maintaining sifter sieves based of frequency.
  • General Sanitation of bulk unloading area including bulk bins, aspiration line.

 

MATERIAL HANDLER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Forklift operating skills (on the job training is provided).
  • Safety training is required and provided by Panhandle Milling in group settings, as well as individual computer-based training.
  • Experience in grain handling and computer skills would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal record check and credit check. Background checks are conducted by an accredited third party.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, multitask, and able to read and write in English.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Available to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and shift work may be required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position requires physical efforts such as straining, pulling, lifting, working, and standing and walking on concrete floor.
  • Repetitive use of hands, wrists, arms, and bending to move bags from packer to pallet.
  • Exposure to elements such as noise, minable dust, cold and hot temperatures.
  • Extreme climate or climate variation.
  • Heat up to 100 degrees and lows of 40 degrees.
  • Changes of >30 degrees within a shift.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts.
  • Climbing of ladders.
